Fan-freakin'-tastic Four!
I love doing reviews, particularly for books I enjoyed reading, and I'm really enjoying the current run on FF. Sure it's had some low points, and as with any story featuring superheroes, there have been some inconsistencies and plot problems. There have definitely been some unbelievable moments, but that's what I'm looking for. Based on reactions on the internet, I may be the only person alive who is reading and enjoying this series right now, and I just don't get it. Here's how I see what's going on with the story: Fantastic, world altering adventures, super science, the FF as superhero royalty, a somewhat dysfunctional but still close-knit family, all thrown together with traditional and new heroes and villains as supporting characters. Isn't that what the Fantastic Four comic is supposed to be about?
The curious thing is the title of the issue, the Death of the Invisible Woman Part 2: The Hooded Man. So far this story is reading more like the death of Johnny Storm. I say this because most of the action in this issue focuses on him. It seems like each issue has some twists you just don't see coming and this issue is no exception. As a matter of fact, there are some killer twists in this issue. Mark Millar has been doing a great job of pacing the story and throwing curve balls every so often. The character referred to in the title, the Hooded Man, shows up and left me with two thoughts: 1. Who is that guy? and 2. I hope we get to see a fight between him and the Thing.
Final thoughts on the book, it's action packed, connected to the history and tradition of the title as well as bringing plenty of new things to the Fantastic Four cannon. Recommended.
