The amount of good in this title cannot be measured. I said before I have no idea why I waited to get on board when it comes to X-Men: First Class. There is some real fun in this title. The twelfth issue is no exception. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but Jeff Parker is funny, witty, and a damn good writer. The handle he has on Xavier's first students is a firm one. It doesn't feel forced, or 'off' in any way. Scott sounds like Scott, Hank sounds like Hank, and so on. I can't find anything wrong on that side of the credit box.
And I think he has a fantastic partner-in-crime in Roger Cruz. The art is crisp and clean. When Angel takes to the skies, you're flying with him. Open spaces are one thing, but the man has a knack for getting the point - or expression - across. You know what Warrren's father is thinking when he is meeting his son's classmates. You know what's going through Bobby's mind when he sees Warren's aunt, the fact that he says it out loud to Cyclops makes you laugh.
And there were a few places in this issue where I found myself laughing. "Yeah, he shouldn't even be here.", Bobby 'saving' Warren, "Really? I didn't notice.", and "...all we got is Jean.", make you glad this book isn't steeped in the grim darkness many other books find themselves in 'to keep up with the times'.
I won't spoil the ending of this issue, but it's a storyline that I look forward to seeing play out.
Recommended.

And He's Not Just a Talented Writer
Those of you that only think Jeff Parker is a damn fine writer as shown by his work in Agents of Atlas and X-Men: First Class are missing out on his other talents. For one, he's a talented artist, as well.
This past weekend was the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, WA. Bring on the Bad Guys and Current Events segments host Pat Loika was a guest along with many other talented professionals, among them, Jeff Parker.
Saturday night, I received a text message with the following image attached:
